FIRST DAY 2025

Writer's picture: Lusi AustinLusi Austin

🛌 Today, two of us were under the weather (edited to add: ended up being C0vid) and rested up in bed. But yesterday was a lovely, full day of learning and life together. Life is a rollercoaster isn’t it?!

Here’s a snapshot of our first day:

⏰ Slow start to our morning with the kids waking up, having brekky, doing their chores and then getting ready to do our stationery reveal.

📕 After our stationery reveal, we put up our new verse for the year (Micah 6:8) on our note board, read our devotional (we are using #momheartdevotion one of @sally.clarkson ‘s books that I tweak for the kids), we read our Word of the Day (Potholing ie caving - never heard of it!) then read a chapter of our abridged Moby Dick read aloud.

🖊️ The kiddos wrote up their planning Monday morning on the whiteboard. We have a timetable that we are using this year because of TAFE and work commitments so using that as a base, they wrote up their learning activities for the week.

🇯🇵 Zeeki made some notes as he was completing his Japanese lesson on @duolingo

❤️ Kids filled out our 2024 homeschool reflections templates with memories of what they loved, were challenged by, wished they done…

🧪 Zeeki experimented with making an ebonising solution (by soaking steel wool in a jar of apple cider vinegar). He researched which was the best type to use (not one with soap!), looked online to see if they had some in stock at Bunnings, then we went and purchased some.

🥪 After lunch, read our next chapter in our history book #storyoftheworld.

Discussion about explorers going to Tahiti led to us locating Tahiti on the globe and then discussing Paul Gauguin (and looking at his work).

🎧 Zeek made an audio book playlist for himself.

Zip attended a Youth Council meeting and then got home in time to start her TAFE class.

😘 I had a Zoom too with lovely peeps from my Diversity Arts Leadership Course that I did last year. A full and wonderful day.

Now picture a day where none of that happens - that was our day today (rest of our weekend that’s ok! Embracing the continuum of learning! X
